Humor in China

One of the fun (and funny) things about our trip is the comments people make.  I was talking to the wife of a good Chinese friend and mentioned that one time I was coming through security at an airport in China and the security guy questioned the Benadryl capsules I had with me.  (I carry a lot for allergies.)  I gave a coughing demonstration, he understood and I was waved through.

When I told the story this morning to several people, my friend’s wife replied (in Chinese), “Oh, they would never suspect a guy as fat as you to be carrying drugs.  Now if you were a thin person, then you might have a problem.”  We all had a good laugh about that.  Chinese tend to be very matter-of-fact about things like weight, height, etc.

Camp at Doumen starts tomorrow morning so, even though we are ready, we still have Day 1 jitters.  Thanks for thinking of us.
